General questions

What information do I need to have ready for a quotation?

The following information will help us to process your request quickly:

  • Completion date
  • Size, scale, number, etc.
  • Ideas about material and design
  • Preliminary visualisation (jpg, pdf, etc.) or CAD data
Where are the models produced?

In the heart of Berlin! In the German Architecture Centre, planning, production and assembly come together. Follow werk5 managing director Gunnar Bloss on a tour of the workshop here.

How does my request become a model?

These 5 steps in the werk5 prototyping process turn your enquiry into a 3D model:

  1. Request
  2. Consulting
  3. Planning
  4. Production
  5. Presentation

What file formats do I need to have ready for model planning?

3D models and clean data sets are the best prerequisite for communication and production.

  • Hand sketches
  • Photos
  • Analog or digital 2D plans
  • 3D models in various formats
  • 3D scan data
  • Point clouds and much more

Using software from RHINOCEROS to GEOMAGIC or ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE, we can import and export almost all file formats.

For concrete model planning, we usually require CAD data in the following formats:

  • *.3dm, *.dwg/dxf, *.iges, *.step (ideal)
  • *.stl, *.3ds, *.obj, *.skp, *.wrp, *.thing (only for rapid prototyping)
  • *.ai, *.pdf (with contours)
  • further graphic data, renderings, photos for explanations

For quick processing, the data should be reduced to the essentials.

How will I be informed about the progress of the project?

Further coordination takes place through component blueprints in CAD or as a 3D pdf and photographic documentation of important intermediate steps in production and assembly.

I didn’t find any reference projects on the website that are suitable for me, are there any more?

Our image database, which now contains over 3,500 projects, serves as an internal archive and catalogue. From this we can compile numerous examples for every enquiry.

With the help of project-related reference folders, a possible execution can be explained and discussed in advance using an example.

I need a sample in advance, how quickly can that be done?

We use our large archive of samples and materials to jointly clarify the desired design in each case.

Simple tests can be created at short notice. More complex projects usually require a specific sample as a joint working basis.

For this purpose, we create model cut-outs (if necessary with lighting tests) or mood boards with different design variants. In this way, material and colour combinations can be compared and the technical implementation can be shown in advance on a concrete example.

How does the model get to its installation site?

We take care of the transport logistics for you – from simple city courier trips or direct trips by reliable courier drivers within Europe, to worldwide shipping with professional art shipping companies. All goods in transit are insured.
